Discord image sizes: pfp, banners, emoji and icons
Discord's help center says a profile banner must be at least 680 × 240 px and under 10 MB, a server banner should be 960 × 540 px (16:9), a server invite background must be 1920 × 1080, and a server icon must be at least 128 × 128. Discord doesn't publish a pixel size for profile pictures. Every figure below links to the Discord page it came from. Under the table you can crop an image to an exact banner size.

Where Discord doesn't publish a figure, the cell says so. We don't fill gaps with numbers from other sites. "Help center" means Discord's support articles; "developer docs" means Discord's API documentation for apps and bots.

Making emoji or stickers? Sizes, limits and tips are in our guide What size is a Twitch emote and a Discord emoji?, and the Twitch Emote Resizer exports a 128 px Discord emoji and a 320 px sticker, each checked against its file-size limit. For a round or square avatar, use the PFP Cropper.
- Avatar file types: the Custom Profiles article lists "PNG and GIF". The Per-Server Profiles article says "PNG and JPG are the supported file types", with GIF for Nitro users.
- Server icon size: the help center gives a 128 × 128 minimum. The developer docs describe the icon as a 1024 × 1024 image. Both are in the table.
- Server banner: the guidelines say "at least 960x540"; the FAQ on the same page calls 960 × 540 "the recommended size".
- Profile banner minimum: the Custom Profiles article says banners need "minimum dimensions of 680×240 pixels". The Per-Server Profiles article, on the per-server profile banner, says "The recommended minimum size is 600x240." The table uses 680 × 240, the stricter of the two.
Fit an image to a Discord banner size
Pick the banner, choose an image, then drag and zoom until it looks right. The download is a PNG at exactly the size you picked. Your image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

What it can't do: it saves a still PNG only, so an animated GIF comes out as its first frame. It doesn't make avatars or emoji; use the PFP Cropper and the Twitch Emote Resizer for those. Discord also shows its own crop step when you upload a profile banner, so you can still adjust it there.
How to make a Discord banner fit
- Pick the banner above. Server banner for the image at the top of your channel list, profile banner for your own profile card, or invite background for the image behind your server's invite pop-up.
- Choose an image. Drag it and zoom until the part you want sits inside the frame. Anything in the dark area is cut off.
- Download the PNG. It is exactly the size you picked, for example 960 × 540.
- Upload it in Discord. Profile banner: User Settings, Profiles, Change Banner. Server banner: Server Settings, Overview, Server Banner Background. Invite background: Server Settings, Overview, Server Invite Background, Upload Background. These steps are from Discord's Custom Profiles, Server Banners and Server Invite Background articles.
Discord pfp size
Discord's help center doesn't publish a pixel size or a file size limit for profile pictures. It lists PNG and GIF as the avatar file types, and only Nitro subscribers can use an animated GIF. Discord's developer docs say its image server can return an image at "any power of two between 16 and 4096" pixels. That describes how apps download images, not a rule for what you upload.
A square image is the safe choice. The PFP Cropper saves 512 × 512 by default. That's our suggestion, not a Discord rule.
Discord banner dimensions
Discord has two different banners, and they aren't the same shape.
- Profile banner (on your profile card): at least 680 × 240 px, under 10 MB, PNG, JPG or animated GIF, and you need Nitro to upload one. Discord doesn't publish an aspect ratio or a recommended size. After you upload, Discord shows a crop step; if you press Skip, it crops with its default settings.
- Server banner (at the top of the channel list): 960 × 540 px, 16:9. A 1920 × 1080 image is resized for you. Discord suggests you keep the top 48 px "fairly simple" so the server name stays readable, and avoid logos or text. It needs boost Level 2, or Level 3 for an animated banner. An animated server banner plays for 5 seconds when the server loads, then pauses.
The server invite background is a third wide image: it must be 1920 × 1080, JPG or PNG, and can't be animated. Discord notes that the invite pop-up sits in the middle of the screen, so keep the important parts of the image away from the centre.
Discord's Server Profile page also has a "banner", but there you pick a colour tile, not an image.
Discord server icon size
The minimum is 128 × 128 px. To crop a big image, Discord suggests a square in multiples of 128, such as 256 × 256 or 384 × 384. Its developer docs describe the icon as a 1024 × 1024 PNG, JPEG or GIF. An animated icon needs boost Level 1. The PFP Cropper makes square images at 128, 256, 512 or 1024 px, or a custom size.

Questions
What size is a Discord pfp?
Discord doesn't publish a pixel size for profile pictures. It accepts PNG and GIF, and animated GIF avatars need Nitro. Use a square image; we suggest 512 × 512, which is our choice, not a Discord rule.
What are the Discord banner dimensions?
A profile banner must be at least 680 × 240 px and under 10 MB (Nitro only). A server banner should be 960 × 540 px, 16:9, and needs boost Level 2. A server invite background must be 1920 × 1080.
Is a Discord banner 16:9?
The server banner and the server invite background are 16:9. The profile banner isn't: Discord doesn't publish its aspect ratio, and its minimum size, 680 × 240, is much wider (17:6).
How do I make my Discord banner fit?
Crop it to the right shape before you upload. Use the banner resizer above: pick the banner, drag and zoom, and download a PNG at the exact size. For a profile banner, Discord also lets you adjust the crop after uploading.
What size is a Discord server banner?
960 × 540 px, 16:9, for both static and animated banners. You can upload 1920 × 1080 and Discord resizes it. Discord doesn't publish a file size limit for server banners.
What size is a Discord server icon?
At least 128 × 128 px. Discord suggests cropping in multiples of 128, and its developer docs describe a 1024 × 1024 icon.
What size is a Discord emoji?
Up to 128 × 128 px and under 256 KB; Discord shows it at 32 × 32. More in our emoji size guide.
Can I make an animated banner with this tool?
No. It saves a still PNG. An animated profile banner (Nitro) or animated server banner (Level 3) has to be a GIF, and this tool doesn't make GIFs.
