GIF Resizer
Resize an animated GIF to an exact width and height, by a percentage, or to a Twitch emote size. Lock the aspect ratio, or crop to fill. Every frame keeps its original timing, and you see the new file size before you download.

Both pictures are shown scaled to fit the box. The numbers under them are the real sizes.

How to resize a GIF
- Choose your GIF. Drop it on the box above, paste it, or press Choose GIF. It stays on your device.
- Pick a size. Type a width and height in pixels, pick a percentage, or pick a preset such as a Twitch emote size.
- Choose how to fit. With Lock aspect ratio on, the shape never changes. With it off, or with a square preset on a wide GIF, choose Crop to fill, Fit inside or Stretch.
- Check the file size. The new size in KB is shown under Download, and for a preset it is checked against that platform's limit.
- Download. You get a GIF with the same number of frames, the same delays and the same loop count as your original.
Platform sizes used by the presets
| Preset | Pixel size | What the platform's help page says |
|---|---|---|
| Twitch emote | 112 × 112, 56 × 56, 28 × 28 | Three sizes: 28, 56 and 112 px. Animated emotes are GIFs, square, at most 60 frames. In manual upload mode each file can be at most 512 KB; with auto-resize, one file up to 1 MB. |
| Discord emoji | 128 × 128 (our choice) | Custom emoji must be under 256 KB, as JPEG, PNG, GIF or WEBP. The page we read gives no pixel size. |
| Slack emoji | 128 × 128 (our choice) | Square images under 128 KB with transparent backgrounds work best. GIFs can include up to 50 frames. The page we read gives no pixel size. |
Sources, read 27 October 2026: Twitch emote guidelines, Discord How to add custom emojis, Slack Add custom emoji. The tool checks file sizes with 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so a file that passes here fits either way.
What changes, and what doesn't
- Timing: a GIF stores a delay for every frame, in hundredths of a second. Each frame of the download keeps the exact delay stored in your original, and the loop count is copied too.
- Colours: each frame is rebuilt as a full picture with its own colour table of at most 256 colours. Smooth scaling blends neighbouring pixels and makes new in-between colours, so some frames may have their colours reduced to fit. The tool tells you how many. Sharp pixels scaling makes no new colours.
- Transparency: clear pixels stay clear. Fit inside adds clear edges where the picture does not reach.
- File size: a smaller GIF is usually a smaller file, but not always: every frame is stored as a full picture, so a GIF that only stored the changing parts of each frame can grow.
FAQ
How do I resize a GIF without losing the animation?
Choose your GIF above, pick a size, then press Download GIF. Every frame is resized, so the result is still animated, with the same frames, delays and loop count as the original.
Can I resize a GIF to an exact width and height?
Yes. Turn off Lock aspect ratio and type both numbers. If the new shape differs from the original, choose Crop to fill to trim the edges, Fit inside to keep the whole picture with clear edges, or Stretch to squash it to fit.
What size is a Twitch emote?
Twitch's emote guidelines list three square sizes: 28 × 28, 56 × 56 and 112 × 112 px. For animated emotes in manual mode, each file can be at most 512 KB, and an animated emote can have at most 60 frames. Use the three Twitch presets, one after the other, to make all three files.
What size is a Discord or Slack emoji?
The Discord and Slack help pages we read give no pixel size. Discord says custom emoji must be under 256 KB. Slack says square images under 128 KB work best and GIFs can include up to 50 frames. Our presets make a 128 × 128 square and check those limits.
My resized GIF is too big. How do I make the file smaller?
Try a smaller size, or Sharp pixels scaling, which adds no new colours. You can also cut frames or slow the GIF with the GIF Speed Changer first.
Does resizing change the speed of my GIF?
No. Every frame keeps the delay stored in your original, and the loop count is kept. The frame count stays the same too.
Does this tool upload my GIF?
No. Your GIF is read and resized by your browser on your own device and is never sent to a server. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool. No request carries your file. The page counts visits and finished downloads (tool name only) with analytics that sets no cookies, and no file data is ever sent (see privacy).
