Before and after
The example image, made with this tool. Middle: one speech bubble with its tail dragged to the fox. Right: the Meme top style with Transparent cut-out ticked, saved as PNG; the checks show the see-through part.

How to add text in a speech bubble
- Choose an image (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF), press Try with an example, or start with a Blank canvas. A speech bubble is added for you.
- Type your text. It wraps to fit the bubble. Change the font, size and color, and the bubble's color and outline.
- Drag the bubble where you want it and drag the round handle to point the tail at the speaker. You can also use the sliders, which work with the keyboard.
- Press Add a bubble for a reply or a thought, then choose a format and Download.
Bubble styles
- Speech is an oval with a pointed tail, the usual comic speech bubble.
- Thought is a cloud with a trail of small circles instead of a tail.
- Shout has a spiky edge, for yelling or a sound effect.
- Meme top is the speech bubble meme: a wide bubble across the top of the picture with a tail pointing at someone. Tick Transparent cut-out to make the bubble see-through, then save as PNG, WebP or GIF. In a chat app that shows transparency, the chat background shows through it.
FAQ
How do I put text in a speech bubble on a photo?
Choose your photo. A speech bubble appears at the top: type your text in the Text box, then drag the bubble into place and drag the round handle so the tail points at the person talking. Download as PNG or JPG.
How do I make the speech bubble meme?
Choose your picture, set the bubble style to Meme top and drag the handle to point the tail at someone. For the version with a see-through bubble, tick Transparent cut-out and download as PNG, WebP or GIF. JPG cannot be see-through, so the bubble turns white.
Can I use an animated GIF?
Yes. Choose a GIF and download as GIF: the bubbles are drawn on every frame and the frame timing is kept. Limits: up to 300 frames and about 2 megapixels per frame. A GIF pixel is either fully see-through or fully solid, so a cut-out edge is a little harder than in a PNG.
Can I add more than one bubble?
Yes. Press Add a bubble for each one. Click a bubble in the picture or in the list to edit it; each has its own style, text, colors and tail.
Can I make a speech bubble without a picture?
Press Blank canvas, set the size, and tick Transparent background to get a bubble on its own as a PNG you can place on anything.
What is the difference between a speech bubble and a thought bubble?
In comics, a speech bubble is an oval with a pointed tail and shows words said out loud. A thought bubble is cloud-shaped with a trail of small circles and shows what a character is thinking.
Why does the Comic or Impact font look different on another computer?
Those two use the fonts installed on your device, which differ between systems. The downloaded image keeps the font as you see it in the preview. Satoshi is part of this site and looks the same everywhere.
Is it free? Is there a watermark?
It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The download is the same size as your image (very large images are worked on at 4096 px on the longest side).
Does this tool upload my image?
No. The picture is read, drawn on and saved by your browser on your own device. Your image is never sent to a server. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the tool. No request carries your image or your text. The page counts visits and finished downloads (tool name only) with analytics that sets no cookies, and no file data is ever sent (see privacy).
