Crop a photo to 2x2 at 300 DPI
Choose a photo, then drag and zoom. The download is exactly 600 × 600 px, with 300 DPI written into the file, so apps that read that mark show it as 2 × 2 in.

2x2 in pixels at other DPIs
Pixels are inches × DPI, so the same 2x2 needs a different pixel count at each DPI. If an app, a form or a print shop asks for one of these, use that row. On screens, web pages measure in CSS pixels: W3C, CSS Values and Units Module Level 4 defines “1in = 2.54cm = 96px”. So a 2x2 area laid out in CSS inches is 192 × 192 CSS pixels.
| Spec | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pixels at 72 DPI | 144 × 144 px | Worked out from inches × 72 |
| Pixels at 96 DPI | 192 × 192 px | Worked out from inches × 96 |
| Pixels at 150 DPI | 300 × 300 px | Worked out from inches × 150 |
| Pixels at 300 DPI | 600 × 600 px | Worked out from inches × 300 |
| Pixels at 600 DPI | 1200 × 1200 px | Worked out from inches × 600 |
Will a camera photo fit 2x2?
WHCC Help, Crop Ratios says: “Most commonly, cameras default to a 2:3 ratio.” A 2x2 print is 1:1, so a 2:3 photo has to be trimmed to fit it. Cropped to 1:1, it keeps 66.7% of the frame and loses 33.3% off the long side. To keep the whole photo instead, use Fit below: it adds bars.
Not every photo is 2:3. Our example photo is 1600 × 1200 px, a 4:3 shape. Cropped to 2x2, a 4:3 photo keeps 75% of the frame (worked out the same way, by area). To check the shape of your own photo, use the Aspect Ratio Finder.
Is 2x2 the US passport photo size?
Yes. U.S. Department of State, Passport Photos asks for 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). A plain crop isn't enough for a passport, because the head size and background have rules too. For those checks and a print sheet, use the passport photo maker.
2x2 in cm and mm
Exactly 5.08 × 5.08 cm, or 50.8 × 50.8 mm: 2 inches × 2.54 is 5.08 cm. The State Department's page gives it as 51 × 51 mm, and 5.1 cm is the same size rounded to one decimal.
Printing 2x2 photos
One way is to print a 4x6 sheet and cut it: two 2x2 photos fit side by side across its 4-inch width, with room to spare along the 6-inch side. Print at actual size, not "fit to page", and measure one with a ruler.
No other size shares the 1:1 shape
None of the other 13 sizes in our chart is 1:1, so a crop made for 2x2 has to be redone for any other print size.
What this tool made at 600 × 600
We ran this tool on our example photo (sample-avatar.jpg, 1600 × 1200 px). Cropped to 600 × 600, it saved as a 35 KB JPG and a 165 KB PNG (Chromium 156, ). Our example was big enough for 600 × 600, so nothing was scaled up.

Questions
How many pixels is a 2x2 at 300 DPI?
600 × 600 pixels: 2 × 2 in × 300. At 150 DPI it is 300 × 300. WHCC Help, Image Resolution says “the original file needs to be as close to the desired print size as possible when it’s at 300ppi”.
What is 2x2 in cm and mm?
Exactly 5.08 × 5.08 cm, or 50.8 × 50.8 mm, worked out from inches. Rounded to one decimal, 5.1 × 5.1 cm.
Will a 2:3 camera photo fit 2x2?
Only with a crop: 2x2 is 1:1, so 33.3% of a 2:3 frame is cut off. Or use Fit to add bars.
This page shows 2x2 as the linked source lists it, and pixel counts worked out from that size. Rules for passport photos change, so check the source page before you print.
